Accounting Assistant / GIZ Office Ankara
Main Activities
Payments
The Accounting Assistant
- supports the responsible officer with bank and cash payments and with the cashflow management
- is responsible for maintaining and updating all related systems and monitoring sheets (SAP S4, Excel lists, voucher scanning software, etc.) according to GIZ rules and requirements
Invoice check
The Accounting Assistant
- scans the incoming invoices and payment requests and enters the invoice data in the accounting system
- checks incoming invoices, the payment requests and billing for formal, factual, price and tax correctness in accordance with GIZ rules and regulations and prepares them for the payment
- reviews and clarifies discrepancies when necessary
- monitors the document flow
- is responsible for the physical and electronic archiving process
- supports the shipment of the accounting files to HQ
- is responsible for the copying, distributing, and filing documents in accordance with GIZ rules
- monitors the unsettled items and prepare the settlement documentation
Compliance
The Accounting Assistant
- stays informed about financial regulations and ensures compliance
- assists in preparing documents for audits
- reviews accounting folders for completeness before archiving
Other duties
The Accounting Assistant
- reports all problems with financial administration and compliance without delay
- supports the inventory management of Country Office
- communicates with internal departments and collaborate with team members to streamline financial processes
- performs other duties and tasks at the request of management

Required qualifications, competencies, and experience
- Educational Background
Bachelor's degree in Economics, Accounting, Business Administration or in a similar area
Professional Experience
- At least 1-2 years professional experience in a comparable position
- Proficiency in using the computer applications (e.g. MS Office package) required
Skills and Qualifications
- Native in Turkish, fluent in English
- Strong understanding of financial principles and practices
- Confidential handling of data and information
- Strong organizational skills and experience in administration
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team
- Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management
- Ability to work under pressure and flexible/out of office hours and meet tight deadlines
- Ability to handle stressful situations appropriately
- Very good written and verbal communications skills
- Dynamic personality with a dedicated focus on the delivery of quality services even under tight timelines
